What Sentence to autopilot was created by SkipperDan
What do I need to send to the autopilot to maintain a course? I am trying to get a Nautinect autopilot to follow a course on QtVlm.

Thanks, Daniel

I can tell ya that on my Raymarine SPX AP the key sentences required are APB / RMC  /  XTE   and BWC and BWR but I cannot get my AP to work in track mode nevertheless.
With those sentences using openCPN it works in track mode instead.

It goes without saying htat if you want to use the AP in windwane mode you would need to send to the AP all sentences relevant to apparent wind  and true wind.

I am assuming that your AP is connected to a compass, otherwise you would need to pass over to it all the sentences regarding the heading too.

Thank You for your response. The autopilot has a compass and XTE. I have found through research that third proprietary chartplotters do not work together with other brands of autopilots. That could be your issue. I am hoping to get this one working as the Raymarine T2000 would not work with the Raymarine chartplottter I used to have on the last boat. It looks as though I will have to manually change course at each waypoint though which I guess is OK. I was hoping the auto pilot would just receive a sentence from bearing to waypoint and just keep following each waypoint. Autopilot should be here tomorrow and my trip down the Mississippi starts this weekend. Hoping everything works out.

Dan
