NMEA2000 Battery status display? was created by jeroenb
Hi,

Now that there is NMEA2000 connectivity, it would be really handy if I could monitor my boat battery status. Would it be possible to add instruments to monitor PGN 127508 (Battery Status) and 127506 (DC Detailed Status)?

Thanks for considering,

Jeroen

Hi, I think it is already there, in a separate dashboard
See Menu->View->NMEA2000 engine and system dashboard

Nice, totally missed this menu entry. I'll try next time on the boat. Thanks!

At the boat now. My engine and system dashboard remains empty. It seems the NMEA2000 data as sent by the Actisense WGX-1 is not understood. It has an option for ‘N2K ASCII’, N2K Binary’ and ‘NGT Binary’. When I do ‘show raw nmea data’, then it show some garbage output, but none of the instruments show any data. The manual does say that NGT-1 data should be inderstood with USB, but I can’t do USB, since qtvlm is running on android. Any chance any of the WGX-1 protocols could be supported on tcp?

Hello,

It seems that we forgot to implement this with TCP/UDP, but hopefully it will be quite easy to fix.

One thing you can do that will help:

Set the WGX-1 to N2K ASCII and output over TCP, point qtVlm at it, open Show raw NMEA data, you should now see readable text lines instead of garbage. Copy 20-30 lines (ideally with the engine running so 127489/127488 are there) and send them to us (support@meltemus.com). Nothing will display yet but that will help us to understand what to expect.

It's weird: when doing as you suggest (N2K ASCII), the raw data display doesn't show anything. But, when I connect to the same port on my laptop (using `nc 192.168.4.1 2001`), I do get data. I attached a file. No engine data though, because my engine doesn't have any sensors. But there should be battery data.

Cheers,

Jeroen
